Prozac: Prozac is a SSRI potent anti-depressant medication.
The whole group of SSRI antidepressants have been associated with
rare cases of increased hair loss.
Proscar: Proscar is 5 milligram finasteride tablets
prescribed to treat enlarged prostate glands.
Propecia: Propecia is the brand name for 1 milligram
finasteride tablets prescribed to treat hair loss. Propecia is for
men only.
Stop Depression and Hair Loss: Some people suffer anxiety
and depression so severe that their concern about their hair loss
affects their personal and business lives. A combination of Prozac
and Propecia may ease anxiety and stop further hair loss.
Obsessive Concern About Body Appearance: Most people have
some dissatisfaction about some aspect of their appearance. While
women generally have greater dissatisfaction with their bodies,
men are increasingly becoming concerned with how they look, including
having concerns about their hair loss. In extreme cases, people
can become obsessed and deeply depressed about perceived body "defects"
such as thinning hair, developing what doctors describe as "a
neurotic fixation on a somatic problem leading to depression".
More recently this condition has been described as "Body Dysmorphic
Disorder" or BDD.

Medications that Actually Work: Until very recently none
of the medications used to treat hair loss had been scientifically
proven to stop hair loss, or grow back lost hair. Now, we have
new medications that actually work. In addition to controlling
depression, we can also effectively treat hair loss.
Two Different Drugs: Prozac is a powerful
and well known medication for treating depression. A rare irony can occur can occur when a patient is given
Prozac for being depressed about hair loss only to find that the process has worsened. Propecia
is the brand name for finasteride tablets used to prevent
thinning hair. Propecia is the most effective medication available
for preventing baldness. For some patients
who are very deeply depressed because of their hair loss, the two
medications can be used at the same time. Dr. Panagotacos advises
that an examination is required for a Propecia prescription,
and that the medication is not suited for everyone having a desire
to prevent baldness.
No Pharmaceutical Synergy: The two medications DO NOT enhance
each other's pharmaceutical effects: Prozac DOES NOT help Propecia
to more effectively reduce hair loss, and Propecia DOES NOT help
Prozac to better reduce depression. Used together however, the two
medications can address the needs of those severely depressed about
losing their hair.
