Hair Restoration Q & A

What is hair restoration?

Hair restoration refers to procedures, services, and surgeries that promote hair growth to treat baldness or hair thinning in men or women.

Many people start to lose their hair, often later in life, for a number of reasons. If this happens, you might prefer to regrow your hair if it’s possible in order to avoid wearing wigs or hairpieces that don’t look natural.

At Hair Doc, Dr. Panagotacos and Dr. Chen specialize in hair restoration and can help you decide on one or more treatments to regrow your hair. Certain strategies won’t work the same for everyone, so it’s important to work with a board-certified dermatologist and artistic cosmetic surgeon who can guide you to options that may work for you.

Am I a good candidate for hair restoration?

Some hair loss is completely normal: You shed some of your hair every day, but it isn’t enough to visibly affect the amount of hair you have on your head. You should consider scheduling a consultation at Hair Doc for hair restoration if you start going bald or if your hair is thinning drastically.

Over 95% of all hair loss comes from androgenetic alopecia or hereditary hair loss. In men, it tends to cause balding on the top or in the front of the scalp. In women, it tends to cause thinning hair. Both get worse with time, but they’re usually treatable with hair restoration.

In other cases, certain diseases, injuries, and events can cause hair loss. Dr. Panagotacos and Dr. Chen can diagnose and treat hair loss from thyroid disease, iron deficiencies, hormone imbalances, alopecia areata, injuries, and burns, among other causes.

What are my hair restoration options?

For hair restoration at Hair Doc, you have several different options. Some are medications, others are surgeries, and others are noninvasive procedures. Dr. Panagotacos and Dr. Chen might recommend one or more than one of them as part of a treatment plan made just for you.

Hair restoration techniques include:

  • Follicular unit extraction (FUE) using the precise ARTAS® iX robotic system
  • Follicular unit transplantation (FUT)
  • Laser cap
  • Platelet-rich plasma injections (PRP)
  • Prescription medications
  • Topical products, like lotions and shampoos

Dr. Panagotacos and Dr. Chen make sure to follow up with you after your treatment or while you use a treatment so they can track your progress and make sure you see results. You might need to try a few hair restoration strategies before finding a solution.

Hair restoration can treat many types of hair loss, including hereditary hair loss, nutrient deficiency hair loss, and hair loss from scalp injuries. Request an appointment over the phone or book a consultation online at Hair Doc today.
